I had met JoelG in 2006, shortly after moving back to the Bay Area from Hawaii. We had both been wrapped into a friends documentary about Canyoneering and ended up taking over production on the documentary a couple years later to do the final edit, mix and post-production.
In 2010 he approached me about doing a collaboration together. He’d been photographing all around San Francisco and was wondering if I wanted to put it to a soundscape. Of course I jumped at the opportunity. Beyond bands, I hadn’t done much artistic collaboration , and this sounded fun.
He started sharing his images and some rough cuts of parts and we discussed what I could bring to the project. I composed to the images and it was very much a composition-by-feel kind of piece.
It debuted at the Donner Art Gallery in Oakland, CA in November of 2010, and I recently found a cut I had on my machine, so figured I’d share it here
